Alliance Area Workers: How to Combat Desk Job Back Pain
If you spend most of your day at a desk, in meetings, or behind the wheel between stops, back pain can sneak up on you fast.
The good news is you usually don't need a perfect setup to start feeling better. You need a few practical habits that reduce stress on your body throughout the day.
Why desk work causes so much back pain
Back pain from desk work usually isn't about one “bad posture” moment. It's about staying in the same position too long, losing movement through the hips and mid-back, and asking your low back to absorb the extra stress.
4 simple ways to feel better during the workday
Set a movement timer
Every 30–45 minutes, stand up and move for one minute. Walk, stretch, or reset your posture before sitting back down.
Bring your workspace closer
If your screen is too low or too far away, your body will drift forward. Raise the screen and pull your keyboard in closer.
Break up long sitting blocks
Even a quick standing call, short hallway walk, or trip to refill water can help reduce stiffness.
Use a simple end-of-day reset
A few gentle stretches for your hips, chest, and upper back can help your body unwind after hours at a desk.
